What is that?
The Anmeldung (official residence registration) is the central basis for almost all other areas of life in Germany: bank account, Steuer-ID (tax identification number), health insurance, contracts, daycare/school and many government services rely on the registered address. In practical terms, this means: Without clean and timely Anmeldung (official residence registration), subsequent problems arise in several systems at the same time. Therefore, this step should be organized immediately after moving in.
Where do I do that?
Bürgeramt (Citizens' office of the city administration) or Einwohnermeldeamt (City registration office) of the city/municipality, usually with a prior online appointment.
